Two projects in development

Mana originated both, and owns each 50/50 with an industrial partner: Equinor at Mongstad, Renavia in Umeå. The two projects are also where our platform comes from: the data, testing and methods we built for them are what we now offer the whole industry.

These plants are not built yet. Both projects are under development. Feasibility studies are complete, the first project is ready for pre-FEED, the investment decisions are targeted for 2028, and every figure on this page is a planned capacity that can change before then. More projects are in the pipeline with industrial partners.

NorwayProject Mongstad

A 50/50 partnership between Mana and Equinor. A planned waste-to-methanol plant with carbon capture and storage at the Mongstad refinery, aimed at the maritime fuel market. NextChem's NX Circular technology was selected for the feasibility study.

  • ConceptWaste-to-methanol, with the CO2 stored by pipeline
  • Site100,000 m2+ with direct harbour access, tied into refinery power and utilities
  • Feedstock550k tonnes a year from NG Nordic
  • Offtake280k tonnes of methanol a year to Equinor

Planned capacity

SwedenProject Umeå

A 50/50 partnership between Mana and Renavia, working with Umeå Energi. A planned waste-to-methanol plant where the CO2 is combined with green hydrogen to get more fuel out of the same waste. No storage needed.

  • ConceptWaste-to-methanol and SAF, with carbon utilisation by green hydrogen
  • Site400,000 m2+ with train, road and harbour access
  • Power250 MW of electricity secured
